Harrogate Annual Disability Football Tournament 2012

Return to previous page

Unbelievably, we beat the weather!

When events around the country were being cancelled due to torrential rain and the subsequent flooding, the Killinghall Moor pitches drained sufficiently to enable the tournament to go ahead. In the end we had a glorious day of sunshine.

Over 450 footballers from 60 teams took part in the event, with teams travelling from as far as Stirling and Jersey.

All teams except the 7-a-side, Juniors and Ladies, started by playing a couple of grading games, before being allocated their groups by ability.

Some excellent football was played in each of the thirteen groups. In the 7–side ‘Premier League’ section Everton edged out Gainsborough and Leeds Utd on goal difference. HGFC picked up the silver medal in group two. Notable performances also from HUDSA Hartlepool and Northumbria Special Olympics, with both teams winning gold in groups Eleven and Twelve respectively. Bradford City won the Junior section and Seaton won the Ladies.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who supported the event and all our volunteers who put in many hours to make it another huge success.
